Double cream dilution
Cremello results from two Cream variants on a chestnut base. Red pigment is strongly diluted, producing a very pale cream coat.
A chestnut base with two cream alleles, producing a very pale cream coat and mane, pink skin, and usually blue eyes.
The body, mane and tail are ivory to very pale cream. The skin is pink and the eyes are generally blue.
The Cream variant in SLC45A2 is incompletely dominant. Two copies on an e/e base produce the cremello phenotype.
The coat stays very light but may range seasonally from ivory to slightly golden cream.
Cremello closely resembles perlino and smoky cream, and the underlying base color cannot always be identified visually.
