The Leopard complex is not a single pattern but a family of spotted and roaned expressions including leopard, blanket, snowflake and varnish roan.
A group of spotted coat patterns associated with the Leopard complex, often accompanied by mottled skin, striped hooves, and visible white sclera.
Expression ranges from subtle traits to an almost entirely white, spotted body. Mottled skin, vertically striped hooves and visible white sclera are common.
The principal LP variant is associated with TRPM1. Expression depends on the number of copies and pattern modifiers such as PATN1.
Some expressions change markedly with age, especially varnish roan, while pigmented spots and protected areas may remain.
White hairs may resemble classic roan or gray, but skin, hoof and pattern characteristics help identify the complex.
